What We Believe

Often churches try and tell you what they believe in a paragraph or two when, in reality, not everyone in the church believes the same thing. At St. James Lutheran Church, we often say it’s not what we believe, rather it’s what we teach that really matters. Everyone is on a different journey that starts and ends in different places.

We have aligned ourselves with our brothers and sisters in Christ through the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, since our inception in 1847. If you are unfamiliar with either one of these, don’t worry, you would not be the first in our congregation. Come join us and let’s explore the Christian faith together.

We teach the Lutheran tradition found in the Book of Concord (1580), specifically as summarized in Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. This 'handbook' of the faith helps us understand God's Word in our daily lives.
